Agilent and ITESM (Mexico) Collaborate to Prepare Students for Careers in Industry

ITESM (Instituo Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey) in Mexico is partnering with Agilent Technologies to offer a unique certification program. The curriculum trains students in subjects that are in high demand by hiring corporations in the engineering sector. Topics include analog and digital instrumentation, development of user interfaces, data acquisition and wireless networks. The intent is to provide students with exposure to the tools, methodologies and processes that they will encounter in the real world. ITESM is the authorized training center for the Agilent Certification Program in Mexico.

“Agilent is a recognized leader in electronic and communication test equipment, and they have provided tremendous support in implementing the certification program”, said Dr Francisco Palomera, director of the Department of Mechatronics and Automation.

Agilent engineers provide training for the academic personnel at ITESM using the engineering laboratories of the Monterrey campus. The labs are equipped with a broad range of state-of-the-art equipment from Agilent. Certification modules include:

  • Module 1: Basic Instruments (oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, arbitrary function generators)
  • Module 2: Programming with Agilent VEE, an easy-to-use graphical language environment
  • Module 3: Data acquisition (Agilent 34970) and multifunction switch/measure units (Agilent 34980, USB Platform)
  • Module 4: RF Solutions (spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, RF sources, power meters, power sensors)

Manufacturers benefit knowing that new hires certified by ITESM’s program will have the skills they need to become productive quickly with a very short on-the-job learning curve.

Students are eager to get their certification because they know that it will position them to be productive with Agilent equipment that is used throughout industry.

“Many of us are graduates of this program”, states Jose Luis Garza, engineer at Agilent Technologies. “We know that ITESM is committed to providing the training, interaction and support needed to give an extra boost to the careers of their students.”
