PLR and 5DX Customized Defect Names Implementation

You can use customized defect names on both the 5DX and on the PLR. This is particularly valuable when you want to display defect names in a local language.

The Configuration and Customization chapter of the 5DX Reference Manual shows you how to implement a customized defect name table. For your convenience, the steps are repeated here.

   1.  Go to a DOS command line.
   2.  Display the DOS environment variables.
       Type SET and press ENTER. A listing of the DOS environment variables appears.
       A line similar to the following should be included:
       IASROOT= C:\5DX\IAS
       This variable is set up in the NT system environment variables
         (formerly a batch file named SETROOTS.BAT)
   3.  Change directories. 
         Type CD \5DX\IAS and press ENTER. The DOS prompt should 
            change to indicate that you are now in the C:\5DX\IAS directory. 
   4.  Verify that the RESFMT.DAT file exists.
        Type DIR RESFMT.DAT and press ENTER. The RESFMT.DAT file is normally
           created when the image analysis software (IAS) is installed.
   5.  Create a backup of RESFMT.DAT. 
       Type COPY RESFMT.DAT RESFMT.SAV and press ENTER.
       This provides a recovery file should an error corrupt the new formats.
   6.  Download the default 5DX defect name table. 
       Type DUMPFMT -rRESFMT.DAT -o and press ENTER. 
   7.  Verify DRESFMT.DAT exists.
       Type DIR DRESFMT.DAT and press ENTER.
       The DRESFMT.DAT file is normally created 
         when the image analysis software (IAS) is installed.
   8.  Create a backup of DRESFMT.DAT.
       Type COPY DRESFMT.DAT DRESFMT.SAV and press ENTER.
       This provides a recovery file should an error corrupt the new formats. 
   9.  Download the diagnostic defect name table. 
       Type DUMPFMT -rDRESFMT.DAT -o and press ENTER.
   10. View the .NOR file.
       Type  .NOR and press ENTER. 
       If you want to print this file, from the top line press ALT L to mark the first line.
         Press END END END to mark the file. Press ALT P to print the marked block. 
   11. Edit .NOR and .DIA 
   12. Repeat Step 10 and Step 11 for DRESFMT.DAT. 
       Repeat if you want to modify diagnostic measurements as well. 
         If you want the results to match when Algorithm DIAG Measurements are enabled, 
         then all edits done in RESFMT.DAT must also be duplicated in DRESFMT.DAT.Task Steps Notes
   13. Define a custom defect name.
       You can define a custom defect name by adding a comma after the standard name, then entering your new name. 
       Format:
       , 
       Example:
       Open, No Contact
       What would have been called Open, is now called No Contact. 
         The entries are comma delimited, not space delimited. 
         You may rename some or all of the entries. 
         If no change is entered, the standard name is used. 
         Each entry that you make in the custom file overrides the respective 5DX default name.
         Any entries that are in error or are omitted revert to the default name.
   14. Return to the current release MASTER directory.
       Type MA and press ENTER.
   15. Integrate the new definitions into the defect name file. 
       a. Type CUSTFMT -r RESFMT.DAT -a  and press ENTER. This adds .NOR to RESFMT.DAT.
       b. If you want to change the diagnostic measurement output as well,
          type CUSTFMT-r DRESFMT.DAT -a  and press ENTER.
          This adds .DIA to DRESFMT.DAT.
   16. Generate test results files.
       Run tests to generate files that include newRESFMT.DAT or DRESFMT.DAT 
         when Algorithm DIAG Measurements are enabled.
   17. Return to the current release directory.
       Type CA and press ENTER. 
   18. Configure the desired results processing applications to use the new name table. 
       a. Enter the new custom table name (  in this example) 
          in the NameTable definition line of the desired application.
       b. Repeat this for each of the configuration files that are to use the custom name table.
          For example, to use the custom defect names in the 5DX Review Defects function,
            enter the name of the customer definition table in revumo_p.cf. Other configuration
            files that can accept the new name table are autorpt.cfg and rpt.cfg.
   19. From the System Access Menu on the 5DX, select Quit from 5DX.
   20. Reset the 5DX. (You can use the Reset icon on your computer screen.)
   21. Start the 5DX interface.
   22. Run Auto Startup in the 5DX System Access menu. 

The customized names you’ve defined will now appear on all 5DX output such as reports, review defect screens, etc.

Using the Customized Name Table on a PLR

To use the customized defect name table on a PLR, follow these steps on the PLR:

   1.  Choose Options, Set Name Table.
   2.  Type the name of the customized name table that you created on the 5DX.

The customized names that you have implemented will now be passed to the PLR in the RES files. The PLR will use those names instead of the default names.
