What are the ways in which I can switch between measuring capacitance-voltage (CV) and current-voltage (IV) measurement using the B1500A?

There are three basic ways in which you can switch between CV and IV measurements on the B1500A.

  1. Using the Atto-sense and Switch Units (ASUs). The ASU works with the B1500A high-resolution SMUs (HRSMUs) to provide 0.1 femtoamp current measurement resolution. In addition, each ASU has two BNC inputs that can be connected to the outputs of a capacitance meter. The ASUs allow you to switch between the HRSMUs and the MFCMU. Note: Two HRSMUs and two ASUs are required for this solution.
  2. Using the SMU CMU Unify Unit (SCUU). The SCUU works with either the high-resolution SMUs (HRSMUs) or the medium-power SMUs (MPSMUs). A special SCUU cable is available to enable you to mount the SCUU on your wafer prober in close proximity to your DUT.
  3. Using either the B2200A or B2201A switching matrices. Both of these switching matrices have 8 triaxial inputs and 6 BNC inputs, and each input corresponds to a unique internal path (14 internal paths total). One pair of BNC inputs is optimized for capacitance measurement, and capacitance compensation routines are supplied with the matrices. You can have up to four output cards in a B2200A or B2201A mainframe, and each card supports twelve outputs (making the maximum number of outputs forty-eight for either matrix). EasyEXPERT 2.0 (revision A.02.00 or later) has a built-in GUI driver for the Agilent B2200A and B2201A switching matrices.

Note: While the B2200A and B2201A have excellent measurement performance, the ASU and SCUU solutions provide the best low-current and capacitance measurement performance.
