How do I configure the PSA Series to make Noise Figure measurements?
The PSA Series spectrum analyzer's noise figure measurement personality provides fast, one-button noise figure and gain measurements from 200 kHz up to 26.5 GHz. DUT setup menus help guide you through amplifier and mixer measurements, and a built-in measurement uncertainty calculator makes it easy to qualify your measurement system. An optional internal preamplifier (Option 1DS) improves instrument uncertainty to ±0.05 dB below 3 GHz, so you can conveniently and accurately measure devices with low noise figure.

The Noise figure Option 219 provides the capability listed above. This capability is obtained by ordering Option 219 with your PSA at the time of purchase. It is highly recommended that the optional PSA Internal Preamplifier Option 1DS be ordered as well. Specification below 3GHz require the PSA 3GHz Internal Preamp Option 1DS be installed. In addition, the following external Amplifiers are available:
- 83017A Microwave System Amplifier, 0.5 to 26.5 GHz
- 83050A Microwave System Amplifier, 2 GHz to 50 GHz
A noise source is required as well to make noise figure measurements. The following noise sources are recommended:
The Noise Figure Option is also available as an upgrade. Instruments with a serial number prefix (first 6 characters of the serial number) less than or equal to US4222 or MY4100 must order upgrade Option 119 as well.
