How do I correct VSA license errors?

Version 7.20 or lower...

The error message that shows up is very similar to or exactly the same as the ones below:

  • License initialization error, Reply from network driver is bad, Please re-install product.
  • License initialization error, Network driver appears to not be serving this directory, Please re-install product.

To troubleshoot the error, please follow the steps below:

  1. 1. Stop the CrypKey service via the Windows Services tool
    i. Win2k: Start->Settings->Control Panel->Administrative->Services
    ii.WinXP: Start->Control Panel->Performance and Maintenance->Administrative Tools->Services
  2. Delete the following files in /system32:
    i. Ckldrv.sys
    ii. Crypserv.exe
    iii. esnecil.ind
  3. Execute /vsa/setupex.exe
  4. Start the 89601A VSA Software.
  5. Once the 89601A VSA Software is able to start, you may need to request a new site key

Version 8.00 - 12.02...

The error message that shows up is very similar to or exactly the same as the ones below:

  • Update NOT successful: Reply from network driver is bad.
  • License intitialzation error. Could not start ngn.

To troubleshoot the error, please follow the steps below:

  1. Start a command prompt window. Start, Run, cmd, OK.
  2. Type the command " \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Agilent\Vsa\8.0\setupex /U" then press enter.
  3. Delete the file Windows\system32\esnecil.ind
  4. Reboot the PC.
  5. Run \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Agilent\Vsa\8.0\setupex.exe
