Latest Enhancements for N7609B Signal Studio for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)
The May 2013 release of N7609B Signal Studio for GNSS adds real-time multi-satellite simulation of the Chinese Beidou navigation satellite system for the EXG/MXG X-Series signal generators, and introduces changes to the option structure. The November 2013 release added support for the E6630A wireless connectivity test set for use with Option EFP basic single satellite waveforms.
Beidou System Simulation
The Beidou Satellite Navigation System, also known as Compass or Beidou 2, is being deployed by China, and 16 satellites have been launched as of March 2013. The system began offering service for the Asia Pacific region in December 2012. The full constellation of 35 satellites is planned for completion in 2020. An increasing number of companies around the world are now developing chipsets and receivers for Beidou, following the official release of the Interface Control Document with specifications for the Beidou B1I open service signal in December 2012.
Option WFP for the N7609B software enables real-time simulation of Beidou B1I satellite signals, as well as scenario generation capability for creating and editing custom scenarios to simulate stationary or moving receivers. Option WFP is available for use with the N5172B EXG or N5182B MXG X-Series signal generators. The option will also be available for the N5106A PXB baseband generator and channel emulator with the release of PXB version 2.1 firmware.
Additional Real-time GNSS Enhancements
The following features have also been added to the real-time capability options:
- Up to 40 channels are now available for line-of-sight and multipath signals for any combination of GPS, GLONASS, and Beidou. (16 additional channels are available for Galileo.)
- Ephemeris and assistance data output for Galileo scenarios
- Output of simulated scenario data (truth data) to enable comparison with results from the receiver under test
Product Option Changes
Previously, the real-time simulation and scenario generator functions were offered as two separate options for each GNSS constellation. Since most users need both functions, they are being combined into a single option for each constellation to simplify the ordering process. The new real-time capability options for the N7609B consist of the following:
- Option PFP Advanced GPS real-time and scenario generation
- Option SFP Advanced GLONASS real-time and scenario generation
- Option UFP Advanced Galileo real-time and scenario generation
- Option WFP Advanced Beidou real-time and scenario generation
The previously available real-time GPS (Option QFP) and the scenario generator options (RFP, TFP, VFP) will be discontinued.
Option EFP for basic single satellite waveforms will continue to be offered. The new Option 9FP has been added to support the basic single satellite waveform capability for the M9381A PXIe VSG.
There will no longer be a charge for the instrument connection options, but these will still be required for licensing purposes.
