Addressing the Challenges of Wideband Radar Signal Generation and Analysis

This webcast presentation will show how wide bandwidth RADAR signals (e.g. a 2GHz LFM chirp) can be created and analyzed with COTS test equipment.

RADAR/EW applications require continually increasing modulation bandwidths. However, at the same time, excellent signal fidelity is also required and distortions need to be kept at a minimum. Traditional signal generators can provide the required signal purity, but many offer modulation bandwidths which are limited to approximately 100 MHz. This webcast presents a new solution using a wide-bandwidth, high-precision AWG to generate waveforms with 2 GHz or more of modulation bandwidth.

In addition, analyzing wide bandwidth microwave/RF RADAR transmitters may require external downconversion hardware to characterize their performance. External downconversion hardware, however, can introduce impairments into the test signal and it may make it difficult to determine if the measurement results are from the transmitter, downconverter, or a combination of both. This webcast presentation will show how wide bandwidth digital oscilloscopes can enable transmitter outputs to be directly measured at X, Ku, and Ka-bands (up to 32 GHz), without requiring external downconversion hardware.
