With option AYZ external mixing capability on your PSA, you can use harmonic mixers to measure signals up to 325 GHz. The PSA option AYZ will support Agilent 11970 Series millimeter harmonic mixers, Agilent 11974 Series preselected millimeter harmonic mixers as well as third party mixers that offer frequency coverage beyond 110 GHz.

PSA external mixing capability offers two types of signal identification; the image shift method and the image suppression method. When using the image shift method you can view all the images as they are shifted on the display. The signal that does not move is the true signal, not an image. When the image suppression method is employed, all images are removed from the display leaving only the true signals. Harmonic mixers have conversion loss between the RF input and the IF output. This conversion loss can be compensated for using the amplitude correction feature of the PSA.

Some third-party mixers require biasing to maximize signal conversion. The PSA supplies bias currents from +5 mA to -5 mA adjustable in 0.01 mA. See external harmonic mixer application note.
