Can I separately order the heat-resistant cable without ordering E4991U-007 Upgrade Kit?
No. The heat-resistant cable cannot be ordered separately from the E4991U-007 because it has been evaluated for the combination set of heat-resistant cable, test head extension cable, test fixture station and software included in the E4991A-007 or the E4991U-007.

Does typical permittivity measurement accuracy includes all the uncertainties due to the E4991A with option E4991A-002, 16453A and MUT insertion conditions?
Yes. All the uncertainties are included in the typical measurement accuracy. The E4991A with Option E4991A-002 and the 16453A perform permittivity measurement according to the theory described in Appendix E of the E4991A operation manual. For the typical permittivity measurement accuracy of the E4991A with option E4991A-002, refer to specification in the E4991A operation manual.

How should I define or select the residual inductance values of Shorting Bars when performing Short compensation on the E4991A or the 4287A?
The residual inductance value of Shorting Bar has been traditionally defined as 0 Henries (impedance 0 Ω). Agilent has also been taking the traditional definition method. Nowadays, IEC 62024-1 Ed.2.0: 2008 "High frequency inductive components - Electrical characteristics and measuring methods - Part 1: Nanohenry range chip inductor" and compatible national standards DIN IEC 62024-1, BS EN 62024-1 and JIS C 62024-1 stipulate the dimensions of shorting devices and the Short Compensation method which uses the defined inductance values of the shorting devices. It is recommended that you take into considerations these authorized standards, especially when measuring low inductance DUTs.

Is it possible to separate the test head from the E4991A and interconnect them with cables?
Yes. It is possible with option E4991A-010 or option E4991A-007 only. Option E4991A-010 probe station connection kit provides cable accessories to extend the test head and to integrate it into a probe station. Option E4991A-007 provides high temperature cable and test head extension cables required for measuring temperature characteristics of DUT by using temperature control chamber (oven). Please refer to Appendix B and C of the E4991A operation manual for the details.

What are primary differences between the E4991A and 4291B?
The major difference is frequency range. E4991A can sweep up to 3GHz while the maximum frequency of the 4291B is 1.8GHz. The E4991A employs single test head covering entire measurement range while the 4291B had 2 types test heads for low impedance and high impedance measurements, respectively. Limit test function is also different. Please refer to Appendix H in the E4991A operation manual for detail.

While measuring capacitors with my Agilent impedance analyzer, I am realizing negative values for Q and D. Can you advise?
For low loss devices (high Q, low D) it is not uncommon to realize negative readings on an LCR meter / Impedance analyzer. Note that the negative reading is physically impossible (for passive components) and the following explanation is provided.

Why doesn't the E4991A have Load compensation function?
Performing Load compensation in addition to Open/Short compensation is equivalent to performing Open/Short/ Load calibration at DUT contacts of test fixture (by using the working standard devices). Since the Open/Short/Load calibration at DUT contacts can completely substitute for the Open/Short/Load compensation, the E4991A does not have the Load compensation function.
Use the Open/Short/Load calibration function instead of the Open/Short/Load compensation when the Load compensation is required.
