Is it possible to perform the measurement outlined in the attached document ("A New Calibration Method for Mixer Delay Measurements that Requires No Calibration Mixer") with a PNA in place of a PNA-X? If so, are there any significant differences? Thank you.

Yes, of course it is possible! And the firmware to support this measurement in a native mode is just a couple weeks away from being posted to the Agilent website. However, it must be a newer PNA, capable of running rev 9.50 and above code. This leaves out the PNA-C versions, though the hardware most C versions didn't have the proper sythesizer/digitizer synchronization to allow the coherent receiver phase to work in any event. Works fine on the new N522x PNA versions as well as N524x versions of PNA-X.

Joel, thank you for your reply. I have a couple more questions specifically about the comb generator used in this measurement. In the comb generator's Operating and Service manual it states that option 510 (Nonlinear Component Characterization) is required. It also briefly mentions that 2 comb generator's are required to perform non-linear measurements. Since a PNA with the appropriate firmware can be used to perform this measurement, I'm assuming that option 510 is not required on either a PNA or PNA-X and that only a single comb generator is needed. Are these statements true? Thank you for your time.

Both statements are true, but option 083 IS required. If you would like to get early access to alpha-firmware, please contact your local Agilent sales engineer or application engineer and as them to send in a request. You may mention me in the request.
