I want to simulate a combline filter using ADS. I've calculated its physical dimensions, that is, the dimensions of the resonator bars. I would like to know how to insert these dimensions in ADS for the simulation and to produce a layout? Must I insert the dimensions when creating a substrate?
Since you mentioned 'resonator bars' it sounds like you are designing a combline in a cavity. I don't know that ADS can simulate it, since ADS is a circuit simulator and uses models for mostly printed circuit media, lumped elements, etc. I would think you need a 3D electromagnetic simulator like EMpro or Ansys HFSS.
Try this if it is a cavity. I used via holes as the 'bars' and substrate can be air. The definition would look odd but I have used it before with fairly decent first cut approximation. For more precise estimate, obviously, you have to go for EmPro.
On the other hand, if your question is not about cavity, please rephrase it.
Actually I'm now trying to simulate the combline filter using stripline and microstrip and using the passive design guide option. However I don't know why the stripline substrate need to be a 3 layer one (MLSUBSTRATE3) and the microstrip substrate a 2 layer one (MLSUBSTRATE2). Do you know or have an idea why it is so?
