I am looking for the 54845A service disk which is mentioned in the service manual and is part of the 54845-68803 service kit. Specifically it is sub part 54810-68760 Infiniium Service Disk Pouch - I believe it's a floppy disk. Does anyone have a copy they'd be willing to email me?
If you are running a version older than 4.30 and want the webenable feature, you'll need to upgrade it to 4.30 before upgrading to 4.50. Also, if you're unit is really old and doesn't have much memory, you should stick to 3.72. That said, if you need to upgrade and don't have an LS-120 drive, there are others ways to do it. You need to get the files on to the hard drive some how. I've seen some 54845A's with a 2 USB port card installed. That would be the easist. An external parallel port CD-rom will work too if you happen to have one of those. Your other options involve removing the cabinet. You can either connect an internal CD-rom drive with an IDE cable to the PC mother board inside or you can remove the hard drive and connect it to a computer. I've done this with a $13 adapter cable that converts most internal hard drives to a USB drive. You need to copy the update/upgrade files to the 54845A's hard drive. The HP548UPG.ARQ and HP548UPG.HDR files need to be copied to the C:\scope\upgrade\scope\temp folder. The upgrade fold maybe be a hidden folder or it might not exist if you've never upgraded the firmware before. Create any folders necassary. The HP548LDR file goes in the C:\scope\bin folder. Now boot the unit up. After Windows finishes loading, you should get a white window telling you it's about to do a firmware upgrade. Just follow any directions. Sometimes when the unit reboots after the upgrade, it just powers off instead. Don't worry, just turn it back on.
I just thought of another way to get the upgrade files copied on to your unit's hard drive. If you have a PC or laptop and a cross-over ethernet cable handy, you could setup networking between your 54845A and your PC.
