How about the ability of current controlling of N8731A

We are eager to get one dc power supply as current source with at least 400A output. The current generated should be controllable with program like a pulse generation, for example,one cycle including 400A 0.5S ON-State followed with 20A 1S ON, then OFF.
We want to know if N8731 can realize this function or not.
Otherwise do you have other suggestion with this kind of high current high power supply.

Very few general purpose power supplies have programming time specified when used in the Constant Current mode. This is because v = L (di/dt) and the vendor never knows the characteristics of the customer's load.
In general, most power supplies are specified for programming time in the Constant Voltage mode, and then only for a load that is 100% resistive (no reactive components). The ability of the N8731A to meet your pulse requirements is 100% dependent on the characteristics of your load and the rise and fall times of the 400 & 20amp pulses in question.
