I have a HP54601B 100Mhz, 4 Channel oscilloscope. sparingly used. Suddenly it stopped working. It makes a clunking noise and the LCD keeps flashing. But suddenly it worked yesterday for some time. But today same problem.
Can some body give me some points to what the problem might be.
I found a solution. If i decrease the input AC voltage to about 200V the scope starts ok. The Mains supply was at 220V. At that voltage level the scope does not start. Now I am using a variac to step down the supply voltage to 200V where the scope is happy to start up.
But the scope is rated at 100 - 240V max.
If any one can shed more light on the matter. It would be great.
Sounds like a power supply problem. Given that the scope is at least 15 years old, I wouldn't be surprised if the power supply was a little wonky. You can either reduce the mains, or get a newer scope.
