I intend to integrate a V3500A RF power meter in an automated measurement system controlled by a VEE program. I have read the V3500A user manual and it discusses fully the installation of drivers for USB control in VB and C++ environments, together with the commands that are sent to the instrument as strings. However, the manual does not discuss the control of the V3500 in a VEE environment. I need to know if there exists a method for the commands (and the instrument responses) to be sent (and read) by a VEE program using Agilent 15.5 IO library.
For automated measurement with Agilent VEE Pro, the user must first establishes the connection between the V3500A and Agilent IO Library as per the procedure in the User Guide. Then, the user needs to connect the V3500A to the "Instrument Manager" of Agilent VEE Pro with the steps below:
a) Copy the VISA Address of the V3500A from the IO Library,normally its "ASRL xx::INSTR" b) In Agilent VEE Pro, click "add instrument" from the "Instrument Manager" c) Select "ASRL" as "Interface Type" d) Paste the "ASRL xx::INSTR" to the "VISA ADDRESS" column e) Then click "OK" f) Start to build your VEE program with the basic command in the User Guide
The communication between Agilent VEE Pro and V3500A is estalished.
I installed the driver per the recommendation in the V3500A manual. As noted this driver, when installed correctly, uses a LPT / COM port. Then I confirmed installation within Agilent Connection Expert via Agilent I/O Libraries Suite 16.1. Next I added the instrument in VEE via the instrument add-in and the ASRL formatted VISA string.
The V3500A is a bit finicky!
I connected the V3500A's input to a slow power sweep in CW with varying RF level from an 8753ES. There is no rf level trigger synchronization from the 8753ES to the V3500A thus the randomness of the power levels V3500A_VEE_Control_TS-9Jan2012_PROGRAM.vee Sincerely, tsilchia
